Oceanly’s roots go back to 2013, when IB began developing a vessel performance solution together with MSC Cargo. From the beginning, the focus was on collecting high-frequency data directly from vessel sensors and onboard systems, creating what became one of the early vessel performance platforms in the industry.

This is an important part of who we are today. While vessel performance technology has changed enormously since 2013, our experience with high-frequency sensor data goes back more than a decade. Over the years, the platform expanded from data collection and analysis into reporting, performance management, emissions and compliance, giving us a deep understanding of both the possibilities — and the challenges — of working with real vessel data.

IB was acquired by Arribatec in 2020, where the Performance division continued to develop as part of the wider organisation. In 2022, Arribatec decided to carve out the Performance division, which was acquired by Oceanly, creating the company we are today.

But Oceanly did not start from scratch. When the Performance division became Oceanly in 2022, the core team that had developed and supported the platform for years moved with it, bringing deep expertise in vessel performance, sensor data and maritime software. This ensured continuity for our customers while providing a strong foundation for future growth. Since then, we have continued to expand both our team and our technology, adding new expertise while building on the knowledge and experience that shaped the platform from the very beginning.

That maritime heritage also extends to our founders. Oceanly co-founder and shareholder Giampiero Soncini has spent more than four decades working at the intersection of shipping and technology, from the Italian Navy and NATO to leading maritime software companies including SpecTec and IB.

Since that first Performance project, our technology has developed significantly. Today, Oceanly Performance combines high-frequency vessel data with reporting, analytics, emissions and performance management, while our portfolio has expanded to include Oceanly Enterprise for ship management and OceanlyAI, bringing artificial intelligence directly to vessel and operational data.

We work with some of the world’s largest and most forward-thinking shipping companies, across vessel segments and around the globe. Working closely with our customers has been part of our development from the beginning and continues to shape what we build today.

Oceanly is headquartered in Italy, with teams working from Denmark, Norway, the USA, the Philippines and Singapore. Together with our global network of partners and resellers, this gives us an international presence and keeps us close to our customers wherever they operate.

More than a decade after that first project, the principle remains the same: start with reliable vessel data and turn it into information that helps shipping companies make better decisions.
